I always found water colours interesting than oils as I can show transperancy with them. They are vibrant at the same time, not gaudy. They look natural too.

Never touched oilpaint. I used to do a lot of watercolouring in the past...I mean long ago. It is fun. :)

I think with oil, you have to be careful, formal and things like that.....is somebody telling the canvas and paint is costly?

Not my forte....As an observer, oils always seem to have more depth...more dimension. btw, do they smell? or is it some varnish people use?

Good thought! But it is easy to start with simple stuff - water color. I think most of the painters do so.

I think both Oil colors and water colors have their own speciality. Water colors are simple to use, no hassles, spreads esaily. Oil paints are good for a thicker effect..especially to paint silhouettes. Yup...a coat of varnish is applied at the end! 3 cheers to all "arty" people!!:)
